Chelsea is to speak with the Bundesliga's head as Todd Boehly considers Repeat transfer of Serge Gnabry

Chelsea has been looking for a sporting director for some time, and Bundesliga manager Tim Steidten is scheduled to have more discussions about the position.

As Todd Boehly attempts to reorganize the club's backroom staff, Chelsea has moved closer to hiring a sporting director. The American billionaire is looking for a transfer specialist to join the Blues' scouting team, and Tim Steidten, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, appears to be in line to accept the position at Stamford Bridge after moves for RB Salzburg CEO Christoph Freund and Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos fell through.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that the west Londoners have nominated Steidten as a candidate for the sporting director position. According to The Guardian, Chelsea is now preparing for additional discussions with the 43-year-old.

Steidten served as the BayArena's head of scouting prior to this summer's appointment as head coach of the Bundesliga team. At Leverkusen, he was in charge of the loan signings of Callum Hudson-Odoi and other promising young players like Moussa Diaby, Patrik Schick, Amine Adli, and Adam Hlozek.

Prior to that, he had successful stints at Werder Bremen as a scout, director of football, head of scouting, and executive assistant, where he is claimed to have excelled in each role. Serge Gnabry, one of Europe's top wingers, was acquired by the German team Steidten.

Boehly intends to replicate the collaborative recruitment network strategy used by Red Bull and City Group by hiring a sporting director. He spoke about Chelsea's future while looking to move away from the team's infamous use of loanees at the SALT Conference in New York.

"We have discussed using a multi-club concept," Boehly declared. "I believe that having a club has advantages in various nations. Salzburg and Leipzig are Red Bull's Champions League teams. I wish to extend the footprint further. I believe that having a club has advantages in various nations.

"We understand people and human resources. We are aware of game plans and tactics. We won't claim to be the greatest at scouting football players; instead, we'll hire the top candidates.

"When Chelsea has great players who are 18, 19, or 20 years old, it faces a difficulty since doing so means entrusting someone else with the responsibility of guiding their growth."

"Our objective is to provide our young superstars with a clear path to the Chelsea field while giving them valuable game time. The best way to do it is through a club in another extremely competitive European league."
