Chelsea Women head coach Emma Hayes attempting to gain traction

In order to start gaining some initial momentum, Chelsea Women head coach Emma Hayes is hoping her squad can beat West Ham United tonight and make it two victories in as many days.

The 2022–23 season is still in its early stages, with only two games completed prior to today's Women's Super League match at Kingsmeadow against West Ham. This game was originally supposed to be our first of the season but was postponed after Queen Elizabeth II passed away and is now our last for more than two weeks due to the impending international break.

Hayes is eager for her side to continue finding its footing in the new season by repeating their strong second-half performance from the weekend and winning another victory. Her squad overcame a loss away at Liverpool by defeating rival championship contenders Manchester City 2-0 at home on Sunday.

She said, "I suppose it's only the beginning." You must keep in mind that was just our second game of the year. We haven't gained any momentum because we're in the middle of two international camps and a postponed game.

In order to put on the performance we've come to expect from this team, we simply want to build on the momentum, especially from the second half. We must keep in mind that the season is still extremely young, and the team will eventually find its rhythm.

"We had a good preseason," the coach said, "and I thought a really excellent second-half performance on Sunday. I'll be hoping for more of the good things that we developed, especially in the second half, and most importantly the things that we're working on every day in training."

In keeping with that pattern, the Blues manager is more worried with concentrating on her own team and ensuring that we perform to our potential than she is with anticipating another difficult game against our opponents.

'They performed well during the preseason, and they performed well on the first day of the season, but once again, I believe we need to concentrate on ourselves, our strategy, and how well we carry it out. Our top priority is that.'

Speaking to her team on the Cobham practice field is Hayes.

Pernille Harder is still out with the injury she sustained during the warm-up at Liverpool, according to Hayes, who also spoke about her team selection. She emphasized the value of the players coming off the bench, particularly given the short turnaround between Sunday's challenging game and this one against the Hammers.

Everyone else is available, but Pernille isn't," she added. I don't worry about the short turnaround because all of the players are top-notch pros. They must recover adequately, but we have a squad and appreciate the finishers who enter the game regardless of the choices we make. They will be crucial, especially given the short timeframe.

The Chelsea Women's head coach also honored David McKnight, a groundskeeper at Kingsmeadow who passed away after becoming ill before to the game on Sunday, by having the Blues wear black armbands in his honor for tonight's game and by having a minute of silence observed prior to kickoff.

Everyone is truly distraught. The team as a whole and those close to him are aware of what a remarkable man he was. He gave his all for our football team, and we express our sympathies to his family. He will be greatly missed. It's crucial, in my opinion, that we show him our respect and give our best effort.
