Chelsea has announced that N'Golo Kante will miss France's World Cup campaign due to a hamstring procedure.
Kante hasn't played for his club or nation since sustaining the injury in August's 2-2 home draw between Chelsea and Tottenham.
As of right now, Kante will not be a part of France's World Cup title defense, which begins on November 22 against Australia in their first group game.
Chelsea made the following statement on their official website: "In order to treat his hamstring problem, N'Golo Kante underwent surgery.
"The midfielder sought advice from a club medical expert about his rehabilitation choices, and it was mutually decided that N'Golo should have surgery to fix the injury.
"After a successful procedure, N'Golo is now anticipated to remain out for four months."
Kante was an integral part of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup, participating in each of the seven matches as Les Bleus won the tournament for the second time.
Chelsea teammate Reece James, who suffered a knee injury against Milan, is in a fight against time to make England's squad for the competition.
