With the World Cup approaching, Reece James is hoping that an injury sustained during Chelsea's 2-0 Champions League triumph against AC Milan is "not a bad one."

The 22-year-old England player had to be helped off the field at the hour mark after making an awkward landing, adding to the Three Lions' worries heading into the tournament in Qatar after Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury in Sunday's loss to Arsenal for Liverpool.

James addressed the concerns about his injury on social media, and while he was unable to provide any concrete information, he expressed hope that he wouldn't be out for an extended amount of time.

He stated: "Crossing our fingers that it's a good one. I'm grateful for each and every message I've received." Graham Potter expressed uncertainty about the severity of James' injuries and said that more tests must be performed this week before he can offer a prognosis.

"Reece should be alright, we hope. It's too early to give you any more information than that since you won't know until 24 to 48 hours "In his post-match presser, he remarked.

With games against RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb remaining, Chelsea is now top of Group E after ending a Champions League streak of seven consecutive away defeats to Italian opponents that began in 2003.

Potter continued: "It's not simple to come here and succeed, that much is obvious. Bravo to the athletes. They were excellent, in my opinion."

Sunday's Premier League match between Chelsea and Aston Villa marks the start of a stretch of three league games in six days, with games against Brentford and Manchester United following.
