Following Milan's 2-0 Champions League loss to Chelsea, Sandro Tonal yelled at the referees for their "ridiculous, embarrassing judgments."
Jorginho scored the game's first goal from the penalty spot after Fikayo Tomori was given a straight red for a questionable challenge on Mason Mount in the area, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a second before halftime.
At San Siro, referee Daniel Siebert displayed a very animated performance with the whistle throughout the first half, issuing a further five cautions for a total of six cards from 17 fouls before the break.
After the game was over, Tonal was still fuming about those choices, complaining that the contest had more heightened disciplinary judgments than basketball. Tonal is an international player for Italy.
He told Sky Sport Italia, "There are so many incidents like that during a game," "When you give a penalty and a red card after 18 minutes, for a touch like that., we may as well make it basketball where any touch is a foul.
"It felt like that anyway. We had several yellow cards for ridiculous, embarrassing free kicks in the first half. We have to look at the rest of the game.
"We tried to play with pride and passion, even if it was very difficult in the circumstances. It's disappointing for all the fans who came here tonight, packed the stadium and expected a different match. We thank them for coming."
With just three points separating them from the Blues at the top of Group E with two games remaining in the group stages, Milan still has a chance to go to the knockout stages.
