Pressure mounts on Chelsea's Graham Potter after loss to Aston Villa

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, faced more criticism after his team lost 2-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. This defeat was his first in five games but left Chelsea in the bottom half of the Premier League table. As a result, Chelsea is still winless against teams that were ranked higher than them earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel, the fan favorite, went top of the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, adding insult to injury for Potter.

Potter has already been under immense pressure at Chelsea, but he had temporarily settled things with a run of three successive wins before the international break. However, the 2-2 draw with Everton in the last game put his future in doubt again, and the defeat to Aston Villa did not help him.

Ollie Watkins and John McGinn scored the goals for Aston Villa, and the defeat saw Potter and Chelsea stranded in 11th place. The fans at Stamford Bridge showed their frustration by booing the team off the pitch at half-time and full-time, even with a large portion of them already leaving.

The odds of Potter losing his job have dropped from 11/1 to 10/3 on Betfair. This is a huge shift from earlier in the day, even though Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes are thought to be more likely to be the next to go. Sam Rosbottom, a spokesman for Betfair, "Graham Potter will be under even more pressure now that Chelsea lost to Aston Villa 2-0 at home on Saturday night, knocking them out of the top 10 and dropping them out of the race. Potter's chances of becoming the next manager in the top division to resign have dropped from 11/1 to 10/3."

The bookmakers' odds reflect the negative feeling at SW6, and it remains to be seen how Potter and Chelsea will respond in the coming weeks.
